Write, Love, Breathe

There is a common phrase which tells us to: “Write what you know”.

Pretty hard for someone who considers themselves to be a perpetual student and knowing that I really *know* nothing. (YMMV)

However, if I spin the phrase a bit and tell myself: “Write what you love”. Ah-ha. THAT I can do.

Here lately what I love are Vision Boards, Cake, and long-Netflix-binge sessions on the couch. Not entirely conducive to all the big plans about how 2017 is going to change my lifestyle.

As we all do with stress, some things go right out the window. Unfortunately, those things are usually the habits we need to hold most dearly to. Basic Hygiene, Not missing the work-out that truly keeps your brain straight, the filtering of mail that helps keep out clutter and saves you work down the road. Stress and the snowball effect seem to go hand in hand.

It’s recognition of this cycle, a self-reinforcing cycle, that helps you change momentum earlier than a crash. Take the mail example from earlier.

  1. Don’t filter the mail turns into
  2. Extra pile up on the coffee table leads to
  3. Missing the potentially important stuff leads to
  4. A late bill turns into
  5. More avoidable stress

Hopefully when you recognize your signals and signs of overly stressed you can help yourself by doing one little thing.

Rune Stone Study: The Beginning

Hello all!

First off, I want to thank Grove and Grotto for always having the best tools and items for my witchy needs. Supplies can be hard to find at good prices and this faery shop has it all!

Here recently, I’ve decided to expand my divination skills. Tarot was my first love and will probably be my best tool but I want to add some dimension to what I do. Those Heathens at my annual autumn camp-out have inspired me.

I picked up a very nice set of black onyx rune stones.

On the first day I picked up:

Jera!

Letter: J or Y
Word: Harvest

“Your creativity has paid off and all your plans are coming to fruition now.Your life is a hive of activity as you rush to reap the rewards of your labor. You are energized and vibrant, fully able to enjoy your success without complacency. Remember that within your harvest lies the dormant seed of the cycle to come.”

There is no reverse for this rune.

Personally I am at the end of a lot of cycles in my life. Having planted the seed of blogging and massage therapy, I have planned and worked hard to bring those dreams to fruition.

Wedding plans, spiritual plans, and more are finally reaping rewards. I give thanks to the Gods and Spirit that I have been very fortunate this year to have not only my base needs covered but so much more in blessings.

The Path is Spiral

We each walk our paths on our own. Along our journey though, we have visitors.

“There are three kinds of friends:
Friends for a reason,
Friends for a season,
and friends for a lifetime.”

These visitors can be people, animal companions, music, and art. They can be events and emotions. Ebb and flow of dreams and desires. They all come to us in time and stay for a time.

The path is winding and twisting for the most part. It can be overgrown and tough to push through. The path can also be straighter and you may glide upon it easily.

However something you notice after a time and after several experiences is that the path is a spiral. We come across our “visitors’ again. Some times physically; other times it will be mentally. The radio kicks on that song you used to dance together. An image of a dog that looks just like yours pops up on your Facebook. When packing boxes to move, a stuffed animal falls out.

All of these visitors taught you something and maybe they have stayed with you. But we revisit the path because we can look back and see our lessons. We see new situations with more experience and so the story changes this time.

We become empathetic.

We become softer.

We become more.

Lately for me, I have gone back to the beginning and seen with fresh eyes old information, old songs with familiar feeling, and scents and feelings on the winds of autumn.

I invite you to reflect on your spiraling path with me. I invite you to breathe and fulfill yourself on the truths you’ve learned and your beginning foundation. I invite you, my visitors, to show me what needs to be seen.

Element of Spirit

spirit
With my soul connected to the four elements, I call upon and feel the last one. The Element of Spirit.

It is a void and a light. An energy that runs through each element and every being on the earth. We are all connected to each other and reflections of one another.

The Element of Spirit is thought by many to be a void. Unknowable, untouchable, and out of our comprehension.

To myself, the element of Spirit is found only when all the other elements are balanced and harmonious. It is found inside each of us. A spark, a light. A scale of balance. Achieving this balance is a tough task for everything in our life is in constant motion.

Spirit is said to be the perfect balance of light and dark together.

“In Chinese philosophy, yin and yang describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world, and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another.”

Each element of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water come from Spirit. They are born from it and each gain their powers from it.

On the altar, I bring representations of each element to remind myself to keep each in balance. This is especially true in spell-work. Candle magick is very much Fire-based but I need to remember that too much Fire is destruction.

I see the salt of Earth on my altar and I am reminded that no amount of spell-work will manifest what I want if I do not do the work on a physical level.

I see the smoke rising from Air and I am reminded to think everything through and to be aware of consequences.

I see the candle’s bright Fire and I am reminded that I must want and desire this change. There is no halfway on this.

I see the seashells and Water and I am reminded that this spell-work must nurture myself or someone else. That what I do is right and brings about a positive change.

I invite you now to sit with Element of Spirit. Discover what it is to you. What balance do you find?
